gun violence

Gun Violence Awareness Day

June 3, 2022 by Holy Name Monastery Leave a Comment

Shootings in schools, stores, churches…we’ve witnessed the worst gun violence in this last year. Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children.  Gun violence is a national  problem, an epidemic!

These shootings are the human toll of inaction.  A bipartisan Congress that will promote gun safety reform, like back-ground checks and banning of assault weapons is needed. Yes, the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution : “the right to bear arms” is quoted by many legislators. Some even speak of “arming teachers”  The  NRA has plans and will fight to keep guns on the street.

Guns have become an idol but guns are no protection!

As a Catholic nun who has taught second grade to college, I Pray for an end to gun violence and for all those affected, especially the victims and their families.  I believe in a loving God and that all life is sacred. We all have the responsibility to care for others.

I’m a peace and justice advocate so I ask you–what will you do?

Learn more re: gun violence, talk to others about it. Pray! Contact your legislators to take action to advance and pass life-saving gun safety reform. Now!
